The Nobel Assembly at Karolinska Institutet awards the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. As described in Alfred Nobel’s will, the Prize is dedicated to “the person who shall have made the most important discovery within the domain of physiology or medicine”.

The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2023 will be announced on Monday 2 October 2023 at 11.30 am (at the earliest). The announcement will be open only for media representatives who have been accredited in advance. Valid press credential is mandatory. The Nobel Assembly at Karolinska Institutet has today decided to award the 2020 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine jointly to Harvey J. Alter, Michael Houghton and Charles M. Rice for the discovery of Hepatitis C virus

The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was awarded for the first time in 1901. The prize is one of five mentioned in the will of Alfred Nobel who died on December 10, 1896.
