Secretary and Office

The Secretary-General for the Nobel Assembly and Nobel Committee is Professor Thomas Perlmann who has held the position since February 25, 2016. The Secretary-General is director of the Nobel Office and the Medical Nobel Institute, and the spokesman for the Nobel Assembly, the Nobel Committee, and the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. The Secretary-General is elected from among the members of the Nobel Assembly.  The administrative staff of the Nobel Office includes Ann-Mari Dumanski, who should be contacted for questions. (See under Contact)

Thomas Perlmann is a Professor of Molecular Developmental Biology at the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology at the Karolinska Institutet since 2001. He is a member of the Nobel Assembly since 2006, adjunct member of the Nobel Committee 2008-2011 and member of the Nobel Committee 2012-2016. He was the committee chair in 2016 before being named Secretary-General in February 2016, He is a member of the Medical Class of the Royal Swedish Academy since 2008.
